With any New Year on the horizon, magazines inevitably start talking about home décor trends. However, unlike in the past, 2022’s décor trends aren’t being fixed by the glossies. Instead, they’re part of a grassroots shift in the public consciousness, which has had a profound effect on how we’ll be decorating where we live.
With the environment taking centre stage, the central idea is that home décor trends for 2022 will focus on natural materials and warmer colours. In addition, with the Covid-19 pandemic forcing many people to work from home, there's also a movement to reclaim those rooms that have been used as offices and restore them to their original, cosy, domestic purposes.
How will this affect how we make our homes look their best? Let's have a look at the predicted home décor trends for 2022.
Part of the reclamation of home offices is likely to involve a resurgence of interest in statement lighting. Since the Coronavirus outbreak, lighting in homes has become more functional than decorative. Floor lamps, such as our Luster Unique Lantern Lamp and our 60s Rose Golden Floor Lamp, make a bold statement, combining sleek lines with quirky design features. Similarly, table lamps will focus on their appearance and ambience, with lamps such as our Luster B Straw Basket Table Lamp using natural materials to achieve that desirable, natural look without venturing into the rustic.
Again, many bedrooms have had to double-up as offices or workspaces over the last two years. As a result, the timeless beauty of wood is predicted to find its way into bedrooms over the next year. Supported by warm, natural colours, products such as the Linea II Natural Nightstand and the Paloma Bench bring that touch of the much-missed outside world back into your home. Even beds, such as the Linea II Natural Queen Bed, will lean more towards natural materials to help restore our bedrooms to places of rest and relaxation, rather than paperwork and pressure.

When it comes to choosing colour, it looks as though green will be the new grey. This seems largely down to the focus on environmental matters, giving each of us the impetus to borrow from Mother Nature's palette and lending our interiors a touch of the outdoors. From wall-paint and curtains to the luxurious tones found in our Bellevue Left Arm Loveseat sofa, greens are going to be the must-have colour and are likely to be around for a long time. Online searches for green home décor inspirations have increased by around 80% in the last two years. Similarly, Dulux' Creative Director, Marianne Shillingford, believes that, with so long spent indoors, “we have come to appreciate the power of nature to uplift and revitalise us. Colour-wise we are throwing open the doors and windows and inviting every shade of nature in for tea.”

That sense of inviting nature in for tea is nowhere better reflected than in the kitchen. During the pandemic, they have become functional, used to feed the troops rather than as the hub of the home or as "Culinary Central" for entertaining friends and family. Expect to see brighter, bolder colours making a comeback as we throw off the more neutral tones we've used to cocoon ourselves during the last two years. However, the accent will be on natural accessories, such as our Calphalon Tri-Ply Copper 10-Piece Cookware Set or our Mateo Large Acacia Board.
